Watch the story unfold.
Before 2022,
there was 1981.
81: More Than Just a Game revisits Qatar's remarkable journey to the final of the 1981 FIFA World Youth Championship in Australia. Against the odds, Qatar's youth team overcame Brazil and England on its way to a historic silver medal, a defining moment in the country's football history.
Through rare archive footage, personal memories, reconstructed scenes and cinematic storytelling, the film connects that achievement to the journey that would bring Qatar to the centre of world football at the FIFA World Cup 2022. It is a story of identity, discipline, teamwork and belief, and of one generation inspiring the next.

1980s Doha, rebuilt.
Reconstructed scenes with period costume and locations, back in the neighbourhood where the dream began.
What if?
Human-directed, AI-assisted animation that reimagines the final against West Germany.
Reimagining
the final.
An animated “what if” reimagines 1981, when Qatar's youth team faced West Germany for the world title, turning a near-miss into the victory a nation always believed in.
